Wellness Wednesday: Healthy Energy Bites

What person doesn't love to have a sweet treat?! I surely do, but sometimes it can be hard to find something that hits that "sweet" spot (no pun intended), and is actually healthy for you. Did I mention low in calories?! Did I mention utterly delicious?! Did I mention cheap?!

Last week Todd and I were invited over to our friends house for an impromptu dinner. I just absolutely love the dental friends we have made here, and they have made our time here in Arizona not feel so lonely. While we were there my friend gave me one of here energy bites that she's been making for her family. Once I placed one in my mouth I was in love. My taste buds were on fire!!! I immediately asked for the recipe, and have been making them all week for some friends of mine. I decided to modify the recipe a bit, and add my own flare.

What you will need
  • 2 cups of quick oats
  • 1 cup of peanut butter (I used fresh peanut butter from sprouts)
  • 2 Tbsp ground flax
  • 4 Tbsp wheat germ
  • 4 Tbsp unsweetened coconut
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 Tbsp mashed slivered almonds
  • 2/3 cups honey
  • 1-2 bananas
Recipe

  1. Mash bananas first in a large bow.
  2. Once bananas are mashed mix everything together.
  3. Place mixture into the fridge to chill for 15 minutes.
  4. Once chilled roll the mixture into balls, and place on a pan with parchment paper.
  5. Refrigerate balls until the mixture has set.
  6. Enjoy

Tis the Season For Buffalo Plaid

Photography: Ashley Rae Photography
Top: J.Crew / Skirt: Madewell (old similar here) / Necklace: Kendra Scott / Sunnies: Wildfox / Bracelet: Berry Brand c/o / Watch: Michael Kors / Ring: Gorjana c/o / Bag: Michael Kors / Shoes: Zee Alexis c/o / Lips: Revlon-Cherish
Whenever fall and winter comes into season I immediately run for all my plaid. I've always loved plaid, but developed a sick obsession for buffalo plaid last year. Keyword "sick" obsession. Even though it's cooling down here in Arizona we are still hanging out in the 90-100 degree range. We aren't even scratching the surface of sweater weather yet.

To keep this outfit breezy for AZ temps I paired my favorite buffalo plaid top with a light weight skirt, and metallic booties. It's all about finding those pieces that are light weight enough that give a fall feel, but won't make you die when you finally step outside.

Speaking of outside.....Lately I've been dying to go on some Arizona adventures. For all my fellow Arizonians please tell me what are some great places/things to do outdoors that aren't longer than a 2 hour drive from Phoenix!!

I can't even begin to describe the crazy week I had. Filled with sore muscles from starting my marathon training, meetings around the Phoenix valley, tears, many laughs, and shooting with Ashley for Cleo and Clementine. As I have mentioned before I absolutely love Monique from Cleo and Clementine because all of her dresses are absolutely gorgeous. I was so thrilled to model some of her samples for her sample sale starting tomorrow (here is a link to her Etsy store, but more samples are available in store)!! If you are in the Phoenix valley make sure to stop over at her store to check her out.

Speaking of deals my amazing photographer Ashley Nystrom is currently booking her mini sessions for the holiday season at a killer deal! Click here to sign up. Make sure you book her before the spots fill up ( just wait to see what me and her have in store for me and Todd's Christmas cards this year;) )

Be ready for wedding overload because they are many more posts I will be sharing over the next few weeks!

From Barre to Brunch

1/2/3/4/5/6
As if you haven't already had enough of my barre posts here's another ;) Yesterday my PB teacher friend from Utah contacted me, and asked if I could do a post where I incorporate barre wear into everyday wear (Since it was a last minute idea thats why this post is a wee bit late in the day). I totally feel her pain as a fellow PB  teacher. Everyday I am so busy running between teaching, meetings, and planning future projects all while I'm doing this is my leggings. When I know I have to run somewhere in the Phoenix valley after I teach I try to bring a few pieces to throw over my barre wear on the go. I look for pieces that won't wrinkle when I toss it in my car, boots, and a hat to cover my greasy hair.

Hope this gives some help to all those hard core barre-istas out there.

Workout Wednesday: Tone Up the Upper Body and Upper Core

Top: Kira Grace c/o / Bottoms: Kira Grace c/o
It's been quite sometime since I've actually posted about my specific outfits, but don't worry I got some in the works for the next couple weeks. I love to create workouts that burn out multiple areas. As of lately this has been one of my favorite routines.

What we are working: Upper body and upper core

What you need: Medicine ball

Start off in a plank using the medicine ball, and from there do an upper body pushup. Once you press the floor away, press your body backwards using the upper core to keep yourself stable. Next, slide out body forward again, and repeat 25x for 3 sets.

Happy Tuesday everyone! This morning I'm still recovering from yesterdays busy night (not to mention I taught early this morning....yawn :/ ). On Friday afternoon I received an email from Monique the wedding dress designer from Cleo and Clementine asking if Ashley Rae and I wanted to shoot some pictures for her sample sale this weekend (#duhofcourseIwill!). Ashley and I worked with Monique back in July on a project I've been DYING to show you guys (ps there will be an amazing giveaway coming soon). Every gown I put on from CC was seriously amazing! To feel like a bride again makes me feel giddy, and so beautiful. It's crazy to think that something as simple as a dress can make a woman feel so confident and beautiful once she sees herself in the mirror.

We shot some of the dresses inside Monique's store then we ventured outside. The wind was going crazy which worked in our favor for some of our looks. Let me just say you will die when you see this sequin and leather outfit I've got coming for you ;)
