Graduation - We Made It

Dress: Shein c/o
Sorry I've been MIA for a few days my friends, but life has been CRAZY! Last week I drove back to Arizona with both of my parents to Arizona for Todd's graduation. To save my parents some money we had them stay with us in our 2 bedroom, half boxed, chaotic, hot mess express apartment. We got to Arizona on Tuesday evening, and the graduation was set for Thursday morning. This meant that I had only Wednesday to prep for Thursday festivities, and get everything together for the graduation luncheon that my friends and I planned for months. Wednesday was so crazy because there was so much to do, and we are now limited to share 1 car. The morning started off by dropping off my dress to my tailor, picking up Todd's parents from the airport, dropping them off at their hotel, bringing them back to our place, running to Costco, dropping off balloons at Party City, picking up my dress from the tailor, running to the mall, picking up shampoo at Ulta, and then running back home for a family dinner.

I WAS EXHAUSTED!!! The mixture of my OCD planning coupled with trying to entertain people mentally wore me out Wednesday night. Fast forward to the next morning. I woke up at 4:50 am so that I could run to Phoenix to pick up cookies and macaroons for the luncheon that day. After running  to Phoenix I made it home by 6:30 am where I had an hour to get myself ready. After I got myself put together I had to drive with Todd to pick up his sister who was staying 3 miles from us. Since Todd's sister is a Pediatrician she was going to be "hooding" Todd during the graduation, and she needed to be at school the same time as Todd. After picking up Alyson we then drove to school where I dropped them off.  After dropping off Todd and Alyson I immediately run home to pick up my parents.

Once we got to school that was the first time that I felt completely stress free from my crazy week. When the ceremony started I already felt the tears starting to form as the opening speeches were made. This was it! The last four years of our lives have led to this moment. Once I saw Todd walk out in his cap and gown I felt this overwhelming feeling of pride. At that moment I had flashbacks of our time in Arizona. The last four years have been hard because dental school is not only a sacrifice for the student, but for the family as well. Even though our last four years have been hard it also was a blessing for us. We met people that became our family, Todd attended an amazing program, and we learned how to deal with life without money.

Once Todd and Alyson walked onto the stage I just sobbed. So many tears of happiness and joy for my hard working husband. Seeing Dr. Alyson Edmunds hood Dr. Nathaniel Todd Edmunds was such an amazing moment for so many people in our family. What is a hooding? During a doctoral graduation another doctor (either facility or someone of your choosing) places the doctoral hood over the graduate signifying his completion in the doctorate program. When the speaker announced "Dr. Nathaniel Todd Edmunds" was a moment that I will never forget.

Over the last 6.5 years Todd worked day and night to become a Doctor, and his hard work and dedication allowed him to graduate with honors.

While Todd's hard worked got him to this point we would be lying if we said no one else helped him get this point. Todd made some amazing friends at school, and those people helped us get through our time here. These guys spent the last 4 years together studying, prepping for tests, working on patients, and most of all being a good friend to one another. Now that graduation is done everyone is starting to pack up and move to Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Missouri. Having to say goodbye to these people that have become our second family has been way harder than the last 4 years of dental school combined. When the tears start to form we always stop and say "We aren't saying goodbye because we are all meeting in Nashville."

The last week has been so emotional on all of us as we all start to prep for the new phase of our lives.
We made it!

    1. It was fun, but for the most part it was a really stressful 4 years. My husband is such a perfectionist and extremely frugal so the mixture of school + living on student loans was a hard experience.
