Workout Wednesday: Tone and Strengthen the Upper and Lower Back

Top: Lululemon / Pants: Splits59-Pure Barre / Socks: Barre Socks
Maybe it's watching Peta wear low back dresses from "Dancing with the Stars" that has inspired this post. Today I want to talk about two of my favorite mat exercises that strengthen, and tone the lower/upper back.

In my first exercise you reach arms and legs in opposite directions, and use the back to lift the body. Try to hold this position from 1-2 minutes then lower down. Added bonus you work the seat as well.

In my second exercise, this shouldn't be something new to those yogi's out there. I love doing this reverse bridge! Just like the first exercise try holding the form 1-2 minutes.

Worst Weekend Ever

Top: Free People / Jacket: F21 (sold out) / Hat: Nasty Gal (ON SALE!) / Jeans: Rag and Bone / Shoes: Aldo (old similar here ) / Bag: Rebecca Minkoff / Sunnies: Michael Kors / Lips: MAC-Desire
The blogger is back from a weekend full of anything and everything gone wrong. Oh gosh where do I start...

Saturday morning Pure Barre work trip to Denver.
I woke up at 3:10 a.m. to leave my house by 3:40 a.m. to the airport. Even though I've lived in Arizona for a year now, I still don't know my way around. Being halfway awake I got lost on my way to the airport, and managed to miss my flight to Denver. After $300+ later I finally managed to get on a 6:45 a.m. flight. Stressed, feeling light in the pocketbook, and extremely panicked basically describes my Saturday.

Sunday rolls around. I woke up extremely dehydrated, and almost blacked out as I called for Todd. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but managed to get my self in the hospital. I have never been in so much pain in my life. I was literally shaking like a leaf as tears dripped down my cheeks.

The moral of the story drink your H2O, and learn your way around town.

( I bought this hat also in a xs for $65 , and currently selling it for $40 OBO because it doesn't fit. Never been worn, and still has the tags. If interested email me at Jessica.marie.edmunds{at}gmail{dot}com. The size i'm wearing now is a small)

Workout Wednesday: Runners Side Cramp Solution

Top: Lululemon / Shorts: Nike (old) / Shoes: Brooks / Bracelets: Laura and Lily / Earrings: Nordstrom / Lips: MAC-Coral Bliss

Whether you ran track in high school or are an avid marathon runner, you've probably experienced the dreaded side cramp.

About 4 years ago I became an active runner. It all started off as a New Years resolution joke that I would run a marathon in 4 months, and the rest is history. Being an competitive athlete I turned that resolution into a reality. Within 4 months I ran my first marathon. While the actual marathon was difficult, the training was even worse. When I finally started my journey to become a marathon runner, I would always get these wicked side cramps. I found myself always stopping in the middle of a run to wait out the pain. This not only ruined my momentum, but was also discouraging to keep going.

Finally someone gave me the best advice on how to eliminate those side cramps while running. Hallelujah! What you do is whatever side gets the cramp lift that arm in the air. You then take the opposite hand and put pressure on the area of pain. After a couple breaths the pain goes away.
No joke y'all! After the first time I did this trick, I was in complete shock. While I looked like I was waving to people as a ran by (the reciprocated looks are always a little weird), the cramp was finally gone. I was able to get rid of the pain, and stick with my running goal. For pain that is a little deeper, take deeper breaths, pushing the air into the stomach.

When the you get the cramp , lift the arm, and pass the finish line like a champ ;)

This weekend Todd and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary. It's hard to think that I've been married for 4 years!!!!! When looking for the perfect anniversary look, I found this dress at forever 21! Once I saw it I knew it would be perfect for our special evening.
As usual, Todd was in charge of the anniversary plans. He surprised me by taking us out to get mani/pedis, and later on dinner at Flemmings. The best part of our anniversary was just spending time together!

(Petite Review for F21 dress: I got the smallest size there was, and my tailor needed to do some magic. The place that needed tailoring was in the waist, and hip regions. To give me some shape, he took the waist in. I wish it was a little more fitted in the waist, but there wasn't anything else he could do because of the lace. I wore the belt to define my waist more. The length, shoulders, and chest area fit perfect. Overall I'm obsessed with this dress.)
