Wellness Wednesday: Dinner & Friends With Blue Apron

Photography: Rachael Pearce Photography

Today I'm excited to have my good friends Brittney and Rachael in the kitchen with me cooking up a delicious meal from Blue Apron! What is Blue Apron you may ask? It's a huge box of ingredients delivered to your house once a week with recipes that are healthy, and are between 500-700 calories. They create a meal that is perfectly portioned for each person, and is dummy proof when it comes to making the recipe (this is essential for Todd).

I decided to feature this for "Wellness Wednesday" because I believe this is an amazing way for people to learn portion control, calorie intake, and how clean ingredients can make a delicious and nutritious meal! What I also love about this concept is that the meals are done in 35 minutes or less!!!! With my two friends having new babes on the way, something like this is awesome for the mother with multiple kids needing to make dinner quick for the family without turning to hamburger helper ;) Blue Apron also acclomidates for those who are vegetarian, have food allergies, or special dietary needs.

Since I love Blue Apron so much, I would love to give you a chance to try it out for yourself. Blue Apron has generously offered to give the first 200 J Petite readers 2 FREE MEALS - click here

My Blogging Experience As The Voice Of J Petite

Photography: Ashley Rae Photography
Romper: Willow & Clay / Necklace: Alixandra Collections c/o / Ring: Alixandra Collections c/o / Bracelets: Alixandra Collections c/o- here, here, here, here, and here / Bag: Target / Sandals: Kenneth Cole (ON SALE) / Nails: OPI-Koala Bear-y / Lips: NARS-Dragon Girl
Last month when I celebrated J Petite's one year anniversary I wanted to write about my year's experience of blogging. With having so many projects starting it completely slipped my mind so sorry it's a little late.

I was first inspired to start J Petite because of my old manager at Nordstrom (yes Jenna it's you), and her saying that I should start a blog. Always wanting to start something that I was passionate about to share with the world was a little intimidating at first. There was the fear to put myself out there completely vulnerable to people of the internet, and I'm not gonna lie I was a little scared of what people would say. Back at home I have friends who have blogs that have become huge, and naturally I would compare my work to their's. When I finally launched J Petite I could't believe the amount of support I received from my husband, co workers, friends, and family. Thank you all!

When starting my blog I knew that I could only write, and photograph things that I am passionate about. Where there is passion there is a genuine voice, and I try to convey that in all I do. Sometimes I don't write at all, and just post. This year I am going to try to write more so you can get a sense of who Jessica is.

One of the things I absolutely love about blogging is the emails, and comments I get from readers. There has been a few instances when people have written to me in response to my Pure Barre posts. People tell me their amazing experiences with Pure Barre, and they love the posts because it gives them a better knowledge of the technique. I love when people tell me their fitness goal stories, and how they love the health tips I share. Before staring my profession as a PB teacher back 4 years ago, I was dead set on becoming a cosmetic surgeon. I did everything from job shadowing, getting good grades, taking the MCAT, and doing the required community service. I wanted to go into plastics to be able to work with trauma cases where people can go through a surgery, and gain confidence in themselves that they once lost or never had. When I started teaching barre I found that I was able to make that same difference in people's lives by helping them gain personal confidence through helping them work toward their fitness goals. With that said I also feel like I get that same satisfaction through blogging whenever people ask me for health or fitness advice.

Another amazing thing about blogging is the awesome opportunities I am presented with. Currently I am in the works of creating cool stylized shoots with amazing companies, and allowing my imagination to go wild (can't wait to share). I have also met some of the most amazing people though my blogging adventure. My three main photographers Ashley Rae Photography, Bethany Garvey with BCaptured, and Rachael Pearce Photography have honestly become such close friends through our collaborations. I love working with women who are so talented, intelligent, and completely genuine.

While I look like I am ready 24/7 please note 80% of my week consists of me with no makeup, greasy hair, and ALWAYS in spandex. For all of you have recognized me through AZ please don't be scared of the hot mess you may encounter lol.

I receive lots of emails from people who are new bloggers, and want to know some tips on blogging. Here is a list of tips that I have gained from a year of experience.
  1. Be only yourself. Let your voice shine through
  2. Get familiar with photoshop, and the basics of photography
  3. Be consistent with posts because your readers will get into a routine of when to visit your site. It wasn't until the new year that I started tackling this dilemma. Get yourself a blogging planner to help you stay ahead of your blog. The one I use you can get here, and it's amazing (i like that it's already bounded). I try to keep myself ahead by 2 weeks.
  4. Fashion Bloggers- It's not about the brands you wear, it's about what makes "you" feel and look good. When I first started blogging I thought I had to have all the Valentinos and Joie's in the world, but that's not realistic for my life at least. I'm still a wife married to a full time dental student, and work only as a teacher. I might splurge here and there for a expensive piece, but honestly you don't have to break the bank to get expensive clothes for the blog. With working with companies I have never heard before, I have found that It's all about what I feel good in.
  5. Fashion Bloggers- While you might feel like you have to buy something every time you post, go browse your closet, and get inspiration from Pinterest. There might be a piece you haven't worn in a while that you can reinvent into a different look (example use a dress as a skirt, or layer a blouse under it to reinvent the dress).
  6. Reach out to other companies and bloggers for collaborations.
  7. Don't get discouraged by haters. Haters are gonna hate. Stay strong girl.
  8. Have fun!

I wanted to end this post by thanking all of the amazing people who contribute to my blog, and all of those who enjoy reading J Petite. I love you all, and thank you everyday for your amazing kind words. I feel truly blessed to have such amazing readers. MUAH!

Petite Review of Willow & Clay romper. The arms were a tad big, so my tailor took them in a bit. The waist, sides of bodice, and shorts were taken in on the sides. The next project is to get the sleeves shortened.

That's So Fetch...

Photography: Ashley Rae Photography
Dress: Fetch Clothing c/o / Bracelets: Alixandra Collections c/o here and here / Necklace: J.Crew (30% OFF NOW) / Clutch: Gigi New York c/o / Shoes: Louise Et Cie / Nails: OPI-Koala Bear-y / Lips: NARS-Dragon Girl
One thing I can't seem to get away from this season is florals! Whether the pattern is big or small I love it all! Since the pattern on the dress is so bold, I went for minimal jewelry from Alixandra Collections to let all the focus be on the dress. The first day I wore this I can't believe how many compliments I got on it. From the time I picked up my daily Starbucks very berry hibiscus (always a venti with light ice) to the time I walked into my meeting I got comments left and right.

This dress is perfect for spring, and a killer deal for under $60 at Fetch Clothing. Check them out on their Instagram store @fetchclothing. To order from their Instagram store is easy peasy! What you do is comment "sold, the size, and email" on something you want to purchase. The invoice is then sent to you via email, and your package is shipped for FREE. If for any reason you need to return for another size the process is super fast and easy.

Petite Review: I received this dress in a size small. The length of the dress was perfect, but the torso and bodice needed to be taken in a ton.

Workout Wednesday: Booty Blast

Top: Gwenyth / Leggings: Splits 59 for Pure Barre / Socks: Pure Barre
Good Morning everyone! Today I am here to show one of my new favorite workout moves that will tone and firm the glutes.

What you will need: Medicine ball and mat
What we are working: Primarily the glutes and hamstrings. Secondary: lower back.

Do this move 20-30x for 2 sets. Please note that as you raise and lower the hips keep the upper back glued to the mat so you don't feel like you are siting on your neck.

Enjoy 20% off your Gwenyth order by using the code "TheJPetite20" for the first 100 readers at checkout (more to come about this brand in a couple weeks) :)
