Have you ever entered into a Whole Foods, and find yourself scratching your head asking "What the freak is Chia...or is it pronounced ch-i-a or ch-ee-a?" To clarify any prononciation errors it's ch-ee-a. Chia seeds have become my latest food obsession. With working so close to a Whole Foods now that the new North Scottsdale Pure Barre location has opened, I been consistently going there for lunch (We don't tell Todd that te-he). Since frequenting Whole Foods I have noticed so many drinks have Chia seeds in them. Naturally I became curious, and started researching the health benefits. Time to whip out my monocle, and investigate this so called healthy Chia seed. After searching the internet I became fascinated with all the health benefits your get from this seed. Did you know that Chia seeds are:
High in antioxidants, omega -3 fatty acids, and fiber
Helps you eat less
Helps regulate blood sugar
Is a complete protein
Help regulate bowel movements
Chia seeds are so easy to incorporate into your diet whether that be using them to bake with, blending them in a smoothie, salad toppers, or even mixing them into your yogurt.
Here is a recipe for a paleo strawberry chia seed lemondade.
What you will need:
- Strawberries
- 2 lemons
- 3 tbs Chia seeds
- 1-2 tbs raw honey
- 16 oz water
- Optional: I like to add 5 mint leaves
- In a blender mix strawberries, lemon juice, honey, and water together.
- After blending strain the pulp.
- Place in a mason jar, and add the seeds.
- Shake shake shake it up (got the Taylor Swift song stuck in my head).
- Refrigerate for 2 hours, and shake before consuming
Enjoy!
