Workout Wednesday: Standing Ab Exercise to Trim the Waistline

Who doesn't want rock hard abs when swimsuit season is here? While you are a Rockstar for doing all your sit ups to chisel away your core, but have you worked your side waist? By working your side waist you are going to create that narrow silhouette, and desired hourglass figure.

What you need: 1 weight. I like to use between 15-20 lbs.

Start off in an upright position with the weight in one hand, and other hand on hip. Keeping your arm straight side bend from the waist, while tracing the outside of your thigh with the weight. Come upright. Do this 15x.

Next you want to start off upright again, but this time bend more on a diagonal tracing the top of your  thigh with the weight. Do this 15x.
Once you have completed this for one side do the same thing for the other side. Repeat one more time for both sides.

I hope you all had a happy Easter weekend. The Edmunds Easter consisted of me sick with the flu. Wah Wah.....

Before I was struck with the flu we have been having some beautiful weather here in Arizona. With the weather being in the high 80's, you'll most likely find me hanging poolside working on my long overdue tan. Last week I got this adorable swimsuit in the mail from Brickyard Buffalo. Once I put on this one piece I immediately fell in love with the fun ombre blue color. Lately I've been on a neon kick (if you couldn't already tell by my recent posts ;) ), and naturally had to pair this bright scarf worn as a turban with the suit. If you are looking for an fun, flattering, and in expensive suit for the summer you need this one! PS this suit also comes in a red/orange ombre!

Have you ever shopped Brickyard Buffalo before? Brickyard Buffalo is an online retailer that has daily deals on items such as home decor, women's apparel, kids apparel, accessories, and much more.  Their price point is absolutely amazing, and the deals only last a few days. The best way to not miss a deal is by following them on Instagram here. If you love this suit as much as I do make sure you buy is ASAP before they sell out ;)

Workout Wednesday: 5 Reasons Why You NEED Be Exercising Regularly

Outfit: Alixandra Collections c/o

It's no secret that we should all be exercising regularly in our lives to get that hot bod, and to loose those stubborn pounds that won't go away. Yes yes those are definitely benefits to increased physical activity, but there's so much more to exercise than improving outside appearances. Exercise leads to health, and health consists of our bodies external and internal functionality. Here are some of my favorite reasons why you should be exercising regularly.

  1. Improves Self Confidence - No brainer here, but to me this is so important to us as women. We live in a world where media portrays image as everything, and women will definitely feel that pressure. By establishing a fitness regimen to work toward a healthier lifestyle your self image will improve as you take proactive care of yourself. On a chemical level your body will increase endorphins that are associated with well being and euphoria.
  2. Increased Energy - I can testify to this 100%! I work out 95% of the time in the morning 6x a week. I notice if I don't get my morning workout in that my energy level will be low for the day, and will be less likely to workout in the evening. During mild exercise blood circulation is improved, thus allowing more oxygen to be delivered to our body. The more oxygen delivered to the body will lead to increased energy. Side Note: Cyclists will do blood doping to get more red blood cells in their body to utilize more oxygen.
  3. Better Sleep - Another one I can testify to. I typically wake up everyday between 3:40 am to 5:30 am everyday, and go to bed around 10 pm. I used to be a horrible sleeper, and would wake up many times during the night. As I became more active over the years I noticed that I fell asleep a lot quicker, and my sleep quality was 10x better. Exercise is a physical stressor on the body, and our brain will counter act this stress by improving sleep quality.
  4. Decrease Anxiety and Stress - The body does this on a chemical level by decreasing levels of cortisol that are associated with stress and anxiety.
  5. Improved Digestion and Reduced Constipation - By improving your aerobic activity you increase blood flow circulation. Increased circulation will allow more blood flow to organs, and bringing more blood to the GI tract will increase intestinal contractions and digestive enzymes. This will move more food waste through the colon, and then out of the body.

Call Me Mrs Accident Prone

Dress: Alixandra Collections c/o (get 10% off using code Jpetite10) / Necklace: Alixandra Collections c/o / Sunnies: Quay Australia / Bag: Alixandra Collections c/o / Hat: Target / Shoes: Michael Kors / Lips: Buxom-Elizabeth (my fav gloss every!)
All last week I had a pretty crazy 7 days. If you follow me on Snapchat you would have seen that I went to go get my IUD taken out, but my primary care couldn't get it out. Now let me just say the reason for getting it taken out isn't because we are trying to have kids, it was expired over 8 months ago. When my primary told me she couldn't get it out she recommended that I get a pelvic ultrasound to see if it was embedded. Great.... the last thing I want is to go spread eagle for more people to check out/poke/prod/q- tip/everything else they do to check out my lady parts. My doc told me to that if I start bleeding heavily or have abdominal pain that I needed to go to the ER. Not the most comforting words to hear on a Wednesday afternoon. I took Thursday off from work to monitor my body, and avoid moving a ton. When Friday rolled around I felt good, and went back to teaching. Saturday rolls around faster than expected, and I had to get a million errands done. At 4 p.m. I was driving from Scottsdale to go home, and what happened next took me by surprise. I was at a stop light waiting for the light to turn green, and the next thing I know I felt a huge impact in the back of my car. Everything went by so fast, and I think I might of slammed the lower part of my face on the steering wheel. Somebody ran into my car, and pushed me into the car in front of me. This accident is now the 3rd accident I have been in within 3 years of living in Arizona. #accidentprone

We all got out of our cars, and made sure each party was ok. Nobody was hurt. What a blessing.  Once we moved to somewhere safe I went to evaluate the damage. My poor little Mazda's trunk was crushed like a tin can. The man who hit me was driving a jeep wrangler, and his bumper had just a few dings on it. The car in front of me had no damage at all, and neither did the front of my car. The man who hit me kept apologizing, and said his eyes were distracted for a second until he realized he hit me. The situation wasn't ideal, but all that mattered was no one was hurt. We called the cops, and an hour later I was attempting to drive home in my crushed car. After thirty minutes of driving the right side of my neck felt tense, and I started to feel pain. My phone was dead so I had to wait until I got home to go to the Dr so Todd would know what as happening. Todd took me to the ER, and 2 hours later I walked out with them telling me I had minor whiplash. As of now three days later I feel ok just a little tenseness in my neck.

Moral of the story: Go to the gyno for a one stop shop to yank out that stubborn IUD, and avoid crazy Arizona drivers. PS, wear a seatbelt.

Petite Review of Shein yellow dress: I got this in an xs, and I think it fits perfectly on my body. I would have to say that this fits small because I don't need to do alterations on it. The dress has lots of stretch so it's super comfy :)

Bookcase Makeover - DIY IKEA Hack

Bookcase: Ikea / Paper: Hobby Lobby / Purses: Target and Rebecca Minkoff / Apothecary Jar: Amazon / Gold Confetti: Amazon / Gold Frame: Goodwill DIY / Print: Mad Kitty Media c/o / J: Homegoods / Mirror Box: Homegoods (similar here) / Books: Kardashian Konfidental and May You Live a Life/ Boxes: DIY Ikea
You guys have heard me talk about how I've been redesigning my office, and I am so close for it to be done. Some of you have been leaving me comments on my Instagram on what are some tips for redesigning an office. Here's my advice. When putting a room together you can get caught up in going over budget, and all of a sudden you bank account screams "NO MORE." With putting my office together I have definitely learned how to stick to a budget, and how to be creative with my money.

With that said let me introduce to you my IKEA GERSBY bookcase makeover. This whole project is super easy, and cost me $55 (I did two bookcases each $25 - wrapping paper $2.99 because I used a coupon). The reason why I chose wrapping paper because it's cheap, but you can also use wall paper if you would like. If you are going to be doing 1 book case it will cost you less than $30. I love how this bookcase gives a flare to my room, and jazzes up any boring space. Lets get started!

What you need:
  • IKEA GERSBY shelf - $24.99
  • Wrapping Paper of your choice or wallpaper / I used this one here $4.99 at Hobby Lobby (use a 40% off coupon)
  • Double sided tape
  • Hammer
  • Hard surface to do your project on
  • Exacto knife or any other type of a super sharp blade

Step 1

Lay down the back on the board with white side up on a hard surface.

Step 2

Take double sided tape, and tape along the outer edges of the board. Place two additional ones on the board dividing the board into thirds. By placing tape in the middle of the board it anchor the paper better in the center.

Step 3

Starting at one end of your board place your your paper onto the tape while holding onto the roll part. Once you have tapped your starting position keep the roll in your hand, and walk back until you reach the other end of the board. From here make sure there is tension in the paper, and lay it down on the board. Press firmly on the paper at the end of the board anchoring the paper to the tape. Next you want to take an exact knife and cut the paper from the roll. Once the roll is out of the way start pressing firmly on the paper where all the tape is on the board.

Step 4

You want to flip the board so the paper is on the bottom. CAUTION: The board is meant to fold up as a trifold so you need to make sure it doesn't fold when you flip it.

Step 5

Take the Exacto knife, and trace over the edges of the board cutting away the paper

Step 6

Read the Ikea directions, and put together the bookcase

And there you go! Your very own girly bookcase! Let me know if you have any questions.
