Wellness Wednesday: Runner's Review of Shakeology

This post is up a tad late because I was watching the election non stop until I fell asleep. I wish I cold say that I was up until 2 am with the rest of America, but this blogger's bed time hit around 7:30. Let's get back to the post.....

If someone has a recommendation for improving their physical strength or health I am all in. A while back a fellow Pure Barre teacher and I went to take a boot class together while she was shedding her baby weight for her wedding.

Side Note: After having her baby she had 6 months until her wedding. After tons of hard work she looked amazing on her wedding day!

After our class she poured a Shakeology packet into her blender bottle, and naturally I was curious. I've never been the type that liked meal replacement powders with just water, and always needed it blended with fruit for a smoothie. I asked her for a taste, and was shocked that I genuinely did like the flavor. I asked her why she decided to go with Shakeology, and the thing that stood out in my mind was her saying

"Since I'm still breast feeding I have to be careful in how I diet so my supply doesn't run out. Since Shakeology has vegan based ingredients it should help me not dry up."

A little over a month ago I saw on snapchat that my friend Ryann was using Shakeology, and that got my interest to try it again. Since I knew I was going to start my marathon training again I thought that trying Shakeology during my training could be beneficial to my physical fitness. After a quick Venmo payment I got my shakes in my hand with the following flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry.

Before diving into my experience with Shakeology let's discuss what Shakeology is.

What is Shakeology?

  • Meal replacement powder filled with proteins, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
  • Formula is low calorie and has a low glycemic index.
  • Ingredients were chosen to deliver the nutrients that your body needs.
  • Proteins and amino acids designed to reduce food cravings.
  • Digestive enzymes and probiotics to improve nutrient absorption and digestion.
  • Helps with weightloss.
  • Vegan friendly.

My Experience

I just want to say that this post is not at all endorsed by Shakeology, and is something that I was truly interested in trying.

Since I normally put my meal replacement/protein powders in a smoothy, I was determined to try Shakeology in it's purest form by mixing it with just water. I do like the chocolate and strawberry mixed with just water, but not so much with the vanilla. For my vanilla packets I will mix those in a smoothy.

When I started my marathon training a couple weeks ago that is when I started my shakeology trial. Just to be clear on something, I decided to use Shakeology during my training not to lose weight, but rather to help deliver nutrients to my body as a post workout supplement. I run either very early in the morning or mid afternoon to get a blogging break, and have my shake right after I work out. Shakeology helps replace some of the calories that I burned during a workout, and provide sustained nourishment to my body through the day. I've noticed that my energy levels have increased since taking Shakeology which is so important in balancing my training and work schedule.

Another benefit I have gotten since taking Shakeology is that... ummm..... I have become more regular. Where is the poop emoji on my keyboard when I need it the most?!

One of the thing you are probably all wondering is have I lost weight? Yes I have, but not a ton because I don't have a lot to lose. Since my training has started my body has become more lean, and the definition within my body has increased.

Conclusion
